This dynamic and exciting place challenges your skills, and is a wonderful place to fine tune your abilities. We will also discuss rescues in surf, and your instructor will give you plenty of opportunity to practice your newfound skills and increase your confidence in this exciting, fun filled day.

Surfing the Short Boat

The time is here to tear up the waves and hang ten…
If you have ventured to the surf, perhaps in a long boat, perhaps body surfing, and thought to yourself “I want to really rip the waves up!” we will show you how. Surfing in “short boats” is a totally unique, totally fun experience, and it helps to have a helping hand.
Diagonal running on a wave is one of the crucial skills for any short boat surfer- it allows you to stay on the wave longer, avoid getting thrashed, and lays the basis for another crucial skill, the bottom turn. Trust us, these skills are MUCH easier to learn with a experienced eye there to give you some top tips as well as video feedback.
Your instructors, skilled kayak surfers as well as talented teachers, will demonstrate good surfing practices including reading waves, surf etiquette, breaking out through the surf zone, catching waves, proper boat trim and weighting, edging and steering strokes, bracing, and dealing with capsizes in surf. Progressing at each student’s own pace we will have you carving the wave up in no time!

Pre-Requisite: Strokes and Rescues. A solid roll is a great advantage, though not required.
